The biggest operator of trains to and from Torquay and The English Riviera is Great Western Railways (formerly First Great Western). Their services generally originate or end at London's Paddington Station which means they have good connections with London Heathrow Airport. As Inter city trains, the rolling stock is generally new and comfortable and there is normally a buffet service available on the trains.
There are good railways connections to and from other parts of the UK and rail services run as far as The Midlands, Yorkshire, Tyneside and on up into Scotland as far as Aberdeen. These services are operated by Cross Country Trains. The quallity of catering and rolling stock of this operator tends not to be as good as Great Western.
There are normally a plentiful supply of taxis available at Torquay Railway Station especially at times of train arrivals. There is also a Thrifty Car Hire Office located in the station buildings.
