Torquay and The English Riviera area have a surprising variety of golf courses available to visitors to the area. So, make room in the car and bring your golf clubs with you to turn your stay into a Torquay golfing break.
The Muntham Luxury Holiday Apartments and Town House are ideally placed to make the most of the golf courses in the area. And now that the Town House has its own private hot tub it is an ideal place to relax after a day on the course or a place for the non golfers to enjoy whilst the golfers are out on the links.
Close by (just a five or six minute drive away from The Muntham Apartments and Town House) is Torquay Golf Club. Located in the St Marychurch area, this club was founded in 1909 on land that had been previously used as a race course.
Today the course is laid on in classic parkland and has the added attraction of spectacular views across Lyme Bay. It has 18 holes and is par 69/72 (Handicap certificates are required.)
The other main golf course on The English Riviera is the Churston Golf Club located between Paignton and Brixham and a fifteen to twenty minute drive from the Muntham Apartments and Town House.
It is an 18 hole 70 par course with a sub strata of shillet and shale underneath the course which means it is extremely well drained and therefore useable 365 days per year. It also has fantastic sea views.
For non golfers, there are two National Trust Properties in close proximity. The nearest of these is Agatha Christie's holiday home, Greenway. The second is Coleton Fishacre which was the home of the D'Oyly Carte family.
Just a short drive from Torquay and The English Riviera is the Dainton Park Golf Club. This is situated on the road between Newton Abbot and Totnes and is just a 20 minute drive from Torquay.
It was opened in 1993 and so is one of the newest courses in the area and consists of 125 acres of classic parkland. It has magnificent views across to Dartmoor to the north and to the South Hams to the south. It is open 7 days a week and no handicap certificate is required.
For any members of the party who are not golfers this course has the benefit that it is directly across the road from on the area's best garden centres (Fermoys) where it is more than possible to pass a few hours.In addition, the town of Newton Abbot is just a few minutes away.
